My name is Jerome.

In June 2015, I was fourteen when I arrived to America. I had just escaped years of war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Started High School in San Antonio, Texas, went to 6 different High Schools in 4 years as my parents moved a lot and at the time, at the beginning I knew not a single word of English — only Swahili and too many memories I wanted to leave behind.

The first year was silence.

I sat in 9th-grade classes understanding nothing. I couldn’t ask for the bathroom, couldn’t even order food. So I decided English would not own me — I would own it.

Every night I locked myself in the bedroom I shared with my siblings and hunted words like they were the only weapons I had. Notebooks stacked up with sentences ripped from teachers, TV, cereal boxes, street signs. I watched everything with subtitles on.  When my peers laughed at how I talked, I laughed louder, then went home and drilled until the laughter couldn’t reach me.

Today I’m the founder of Into US Docs — a company built by someone who remembers exactly what it feels like to arrive terrified, broke, and speechless. We help immigrants and refugees get green cards, citizenship, work permits, travel documents, and whatever else the system demands — with honest prices, bulletproof security, and real people who answer the phone. I’ve filled out those forms with shaking hands and paid fees I couldn’t afford, so I built this to make sure the next family doesn’t have to fight the same fight alone.
